Apprenticeship Job Description 

The apprenticeship covers a wide variety of roles, all involved with working with young people in schools and the community.

The majority of the role (2/3rds) will be based at the Royal Harbour Academy and will entail:

  • Working within the Royal Harbour Academy alongside staff to help with the management of students during the school day. This may involve a range of tasks but will be mainly based around working with students with engagement or behavioural problems.
  • You will be assisting staff to enhance their existing provision to facilitate learning, reduce barriers to learning, educational outcomes and promote self confidence and the emotional wellbeing of pupils.
  • To improve attendance in hard to reach groups and to deliver to small groups of pupils
  • Behaviour mentoring programme
  • To work in the school alternative provision and in the school’s behaviour mentoring programmes
  • To facilitate break time activities and to work alongside the pastoral support teams in a variety of ways.

 

The rest of the role (1/3rd) will be with Active Community Solutions working in their community based programmes.

 

  • Assist with sports coaching sessions – these will include working with our partner organisations in schools, at after school clubs and during the school holidays.
  • Work within our community sessions, these are based in the evenings and school holidays and involve running community engagement sessions through sport and other means. These can involve sporting sessions in estate areas to engage with the local residents as well as numerous other programmes to help increase the physical and mental wellbeing of the local community.

 

This role is suited for an individual who is passionate about working with young people in schools and the community. The successful candidate will be working as a mentor to young people to help them make positive life choices.

Working hours will vary and will include daytimes and evenings for 30 hours per week. The position pays the minimum apprenticeship wage.

The apprenticeship will be the Community Activator Coach Standard. This apprenticeship will underpin occupations such as an Activator, Sports Coach, Activity Leader, Community Worker or Outreach Officer. You will also receive a variety of safeguarding training from the Royal Harbour Academy.
